Terms of Service
Last updated: August 7, 2026
Hold to Talk is published by NS EC Holdings, LLC. By downloading, installing, or using Hold to Talk ("the app", "we", "our"), you agree to the following terms.
1. Service Description
Hold to Talk is a dictation application for Mac and iPhone/iPad that converts speech to text. You speak, your words are transcribed, and the app inserts or lets you copy the resulting text. The app requires an internet connection to process transcriptions.
2. Plans and Billing
Hold to Talk offers a free plan with limited usage and paid plans with higher limits. New Mac, iPhone, and iPad subscriptions are billed through Apple's App Store and renew automatically until canceled. You may cancel an App Store subscription through your Apple Account settings. Refund requests for App Store purchases are handled by Apple. Legacy Mac subscriptions previously purchased through our website remain managed through Stripe; refunds for those legacy purchases are handled on a case-by-case basis.
3. Permissions and Removal
On Mac, Hold to Talk requires Microphone access and limited Paste Access, which macOS displays under Accessibility. The App Store build uses Paste Access only to post the paste keystroke after a dictation and does not use Input Monitoring. You can remove Hold to Talk through Launchpad or by quitting it and moving the app from Applications to the Trash. Removing the app does not cancel an App Store subscription.
On iPhone/iPad, Hold to Talk includes a custom keyboard. The keyboard requires user enablement in iOS Settings, Full Access to communicate with the containing app and transcription server, and microphone permission in the containing app. You are responsible for choosing where to use the keyboard and for reviewing dictated text before sending it.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app
- Interfere with or disrupt the service or its servers
- Resell or redistribute the service without permission
- Abuse the free plan by creating multiple accounts to circumvent limits
5. Intellectual Property
Hold to Talk and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by us and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. Your transcriptions belong to you.
6. Disclaimer of Warranties
The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that transcriptions will be perfectly accurate.
7. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, revenue, or profits, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim arising from or related to the service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.
8. Privacy
Your use of the service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle your data.
9. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the service at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the service ceases immediately.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms. Material changes will be communicated through the app or website.
